Onel Alcaraz López named among best editors of IEEE Wireless Communications Letters

Onel L. A. López, Associate Professor at the University of Oulu’s Centre for Wireless Communications, has been named among the best editors of IEEE Wireless Communications Letters for 2026. The IEEE Communications Society, which publishes the journal, lists ten editors in this year’s group.

The journal carries short papers on new results in wireless communications, from theoretical work to system experiments and prototypes. Its appeal to authors rests on speed. Letters move through review faster than full-length papers, which puts the weight of that promise on the editors who handle them.

That handling is what the recognition rewards. An editor reads each submission assigned to them, selects reviewers with the right expertise, weighs the reviews that come back and then decides whether a paper is published, returned for revision, or turned down. The role is voluntary and runs alongside a researcher’s own teaching and research. Each year the society names a small number of editors whose work across many manuscripts stood out for its quality and its timekeeping, and López is on that list for 2026.

He also serves on the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Communications and IEEE Communications Letters, and received, for the latter, a comparable recognition earlier in the year.

“It is a great honour and pleasure to help maintain the high standards of this journal, together with all fellow editors and EiC Prof. Ai-Chun Pang,” López says.

His research at the Centre for Wireless Communications centres on sustainable wireless systems and the Internet of Things, and his editorial service shapes which new findings in these fields reach print, and how quickly.
