Local 6G Connectivity project closing seminar and demo day

August 31 @ 09:00 - 11:00

The Local 6G Connectivity project reaches its conclusion with a technical seminar and a demonstration day at Tellus Stage on the Linnanmaa campus. The project, which ends on 31 August 2026, examined what local, privately operated 5G and 6G networks require in practice, from physical layer technologies through to spectrum regulation and the commercial case for running such networks. Both events present the outcomes of its work packages.

The technical seminar runs on site and on Teams. It covers the local 6G concept, near-field propagation, multi-band spectrum sharing and modelling, spectrum regulation and management, and the business models behind future local networks.

Time Topic Presenter
09:00-09:05 Seminar opening Mehdi Rasti
09:05-09:15 Local 6G concept Arturo Basaure
09:15-09:35 Near-field propagation and communication Mehdi Monemi
09:35-09:50 Multi-band spectrum sharing: stochastic and deterministic modelling Elaheh Ataeebojd
09:50-10:00 Break
10:00-10:25 Regulation and spectrum management for local 6G Marja Matinmikko-Blue, Arturo Basaure, Thilina Weththasinghe
10:25-10:50 Business models for local 6G Petri Ahokangas, Risto Jurva
10:50-10:55 Introduction to the local 6G demonstrations Dileepa Marasinghe

Remote participants can join the seminar on Teams.

The demonstration session follows from 14:00 to 16:00 and takes place on site only. It shows three demonstrators built during the project:

  • the feasibility of local 5G and 6G deployments in the 3.8 to 4.2 GHz band
  • AI-enabled channel estimation, evaluated over the air
  • multimodal sensing for digital twins of indoor local 6G radio access networks

Places in the demonstration session are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Business Finland funds the project, which the University of Oulu coordinates. Questions about either event go to Mehdi Monemi.
