Performance Analysis of MAC Protocols for Single-Cell LoRa Network with Power Control

In this letter, a new framework is developed for the analysis of the coverage probability and energy efficiency of the single-cell uplink LoRa network with power control leveraging pure ALOHA (P-ALOHA), slotted ALOHA (S-ALOHA), or non-persistent carrier-sense multiple access (NP-CSMA) protocol. In the proposed framework, stochastic geometry tool is adopted to relate the coverage probability and energy efficiency to the number of end-devices and signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) threshold. Simulation results verify the accuracy of the derived approximated expressions, and reveal that power control can improve the coverage probability for the three protocols, and have a slight improvement on the energy efficiency.
