Project

OYS private 5G SA and AR/VR solution for Healthcare

This project will establish a secure and state-of-the-art 5G infrastructure for advanced wireless healthcare solutions in Oulu University Hospital (OYS,POHDE), with a specific focus on wearable technologies incorporating augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). The primary objective of the project is to deploy a private 5G network within the hospital environment, strategically targeting operating theaters, selected patient wards, and other relevant units employing similar technology. Through this endeavour, the project aims to pioneer the utilization of 5G technology in a hospital setting, creating a secure and high-capacity wireless network. This environment will serve as a platform for the development and research of advanced information sharing and visualization technologies within the consortium. The University of Oulu will test the suitability of 5G networks in a hospital environment and explore the usability of AR/VR technologies. It will refine and optimize advanced information sharing and visualization technologies. Upon successful implementation of this project, the healthcare professionals can seamlessly integrate wireless AR/VR wearables and deliver enhanced and efficient care to patients. Implementing a private 5G network is crucial to ensure the utmost availability, uninterrupted functionality, and data security, all of which are paramount in a healthcare setting. This network will serve as a solid foundation for future expansion and utilization of wireless technologies in healthcare, including forthcoming generations.
