TERRAMETA – TERahertz ReconfigurAble METAsurfaces for ultra-high rate wireless communications

Over the next decade, 6G mobile communications will support novel applications, such as the internet of senses, that will capitalise on billions of wireless devices. However, existing technologies cannot meet the requirements of such envisioned services. Terahertz (THz) networking and communication systems constitute a strong candidate to support the industrial uptake of such advances. The EU-funded TERRAMETA project aims to examine revolutionary 6G technologies and demonstrate the feasibility of multi-functional THz reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) to support very high data rates in wireless communication networks. The RIS is a cost-effective, ultra-low-power and energy-efficient emerging technology for 6G wireless communications. TERRAMETA will develop hardware and advanced network analysis/optimisation methods for RISs and carry out demonstrations in a real factory and a telecom testing site.
