IEEE Milcom

IEEE Military Communications Conference (MILCOM) features a high-quality technical program with five tracks, workshops, panels, and tutorials for both unclassified and restricted-access sessions. MILCOM includes keynotes and plenary panels with prominent speakers from government, industry, and research organizations, plus a vendor exhibition. This year, MILCOM will take place in Washington, DC area, on 12 – 16 October 2026.
The theme for 2026 edition is “Securing the Future of Intelligent Information Dominance: Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Technologies, Advanced Communications and Cyber Resilience on the Battlefield.” 6G Flagship is represented at the conference by Research Director Tuomas Paso, a panelist in the Panel 12, taking place on Wednesday October 14 at 10:15-12:15 at Brookside A+B, Lower Level.
Putting 5G and 6G Technology into Practice for NATO: Testing, Operational Requirements and Commercial Availability
Standards and demonstrations are one thing; fielded capability is another. This panel turns from the frontier to the front line, asking what it actually takes to move 5G, and soon 6G, from specification into deployable NATO capability.
Drawing on test-and-measurement, operator, vendor and research perspectives, panellists tackle the practical realities: validating performance against operational requirements, the maturity and availability of commercial off-the-shelf equipment, interoperability across allied forces, and the testing regimes that give commanders confidence.
The focus throughout is on closing the gap between what the technology promises and what is genuinely available and proven today.
