European Microwave Week 2026 (EuMW)

6G Flagship researchers from the University of Oulu bring a live demonstration and three conference papers to European Microwave Week 2026. The week combines three conferences, the European Microwave Conference (EuMC), the European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC), and the European Radar Conference (EuRAD), with the European Microwave Exhibition, the largest RF and microwave trade show in Europe.
At the exhibition, the team shows a G-band (145-220 GHz) sensing system for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), built together with Virginia Diodes Inc. A sub-THz radio link carries data and, at the same time, detects objects that move across its line of sight. The system turns the drop in signal strength into a radio image of the object, with no scanning beyond normal data transmission. Future 6G networks will need this kind of dual use to make the most of scarce spectrum. The demo runs on the Virginia Diodes stand D15 from 6 to 8 October. 6G Flagship and the Business Finland-funded 6GReMade project support the work.
At EuRAD, Ankit Regmi presents a study that detects river ice from the polarisation of reflected satellite navigation signals (GNSS-R). The work links two Finnish flagships, 6G Flagship and the Digital Waters Flagship (DIWA), and draws on expertise at the Finnish Environment Institute.
At EuMC, Bilal Khan and Dimuthu Lesthuruge present two papers on digital predistortion (DPD), the signal processing that lets wideband power amplifiers run efficiently without distorting the signal they transmit. Bilal Khan’s paper uses a neural network to turn an ordinary low-rate receiver with limited bandwidth into a wideband, high-rate observation receiver for DPD. Dimuthu Lesthuruge’s paper proposes a new DPD learning architecture that linearises power amplifiers in fewer iterations and with lower computational complexity.
On 9 October from 08:30 to 10:30, a University of Oulu student team presents its solution in the final of the EuMW Student Design Competition, held in a special session of EuRAD. Dimuthu Lesthuruge, Aprotim Paul, and Ahmed Jabir Zuhayr designed a single adaptive filter that compensates for the distortion gallium nitride power amplifiers cause in OFDM radar signals. The team worked with real measured data rather than simulations. Read more about the team’s route to the final.
