SUMMARY:3rd Workshop on Energy-Neutral & Sustainable IoT Devices and Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:EVENT CANCELLED\nThe EN-IoT 2026 workshop scheduled for 25 October 2026 in Rotterdam has been cancelled. \nThe original event information below remains available for reference. Please note that the programme and participation details are no longer applicable. \n\nBatteryless sensing works in the laboratory. Turning it into infrastructure that an operator can depend on means designing the sensor and the radio link together\, so that a node harvests what it needs\, measures when it can\, and transmits when the channel allows. EN-IoT 2026 brings researchers from both sides of that divide into one room to work through what still stands between isolated proofs of concept and scalable\, energy-neutral sensing systems that run without maintenance. \nThe workshop is co-organised by researchers active in European IoT and 6G initiatives that address energy-neutral devices\, low-power networking\, sustainable IoT and future connectivity. Topics span energy-neutral sensors\, ultra-low-power IoT\, wireless power transfer\, ambient IoT\, TinyML and sustainable electronics\, with particular attention to the interface between the sensor and the connectivity that carries its data. \nThe half-day programme runs as three 50-minute sessions. Contributions are invited by 2 October 2026 in the form of short abstracts\, demo proposals or challenge statements\, with no full paper required. Selected submissions are condensed into a 20-minute interactive flash session. Contributions are non-archival and do not appear in the IEEE proceedings. \nMeet 6G Flagship at EN-IoT 2026\n\nOnel L. A. López\nAssociate Professor in sustainable wireless communications engineering\, Centre for Wireless Communications\, University of Oulu \nHe works on sustainable wireless systems\, energy-neutral IoT and machine-type communications\, including cellular-enabled positioning. \n\n\n\nKonstantin Mikhaylov\nAssociate Professor for Convergent IoT Communications\, Centre for Wireless Communications\, University of Oulu \nHe works on IoT wireless connectivity\, systems design and applications\, network architectures and machine-type communications. \n\n\nFull details are on the official EN-IoT 2026 workshop page. \nSee other 6G Flagship appearances on our event calendar.

SUMMARY:Art of Innovation | Lumo Art & Tech
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 19 November 2026\, 6G Flagship brings its research to Oulu’s Tarkastamo as part of the Lumo Art & Tech festival’s Art of Innovation day. Two morning keynotes on the main stage cover where 6G research is heading and what happens when AI moves into the physical world. In the demo area\, three 6G Flagship research demonstrations run all day: light-based wireless communication\, connected robots\, and AI that predicts train delays from Finnish winter weather. Admission is free. \n \nKeynotes on the main stage\nPart of Lumo Talks – Art of Innovation. Times are confirmed by Oulu2026 closer to the festival. \n\n\n\n \n\nKeynote \nAri Pouttu \nDirector\, 6G Flagship\, University of Oulu \n\n\n6G \nWhere the sixth generation of wireless stands today\, what Oulu’s research community has built\, and what the next decade is likely to bring. \n\n\n\n \n\nKeynote \nMiguel Bordallo López \nProfessor of Vision Systems Engineering\, University of Oulu \n\n\nWhen AI Gets Physical \nHow to bring AI to the physical world and the physical world into AI. \n\n\n \nResearch demonstrations\nOpen 10.00 – 19.00 in the demo area. Come and talk to the researchers. \n\n\nDemo 1 · Thu 19 Nov \nConnected Robots and the Future of 6G \nRobots are moving into industry\, logistics\, healthcare\, and everyday environments\, and they need reliable connections to coordinate and work alongside people. See how emerging 6G technologies link robots\, sensors\, and digital services into one adaptive system. \nTuomo Hänninen\, Kenichi Komatsu · Supported by 6G Flagship and the University of Oulu. \n\n\nDemo 2 · Thu 19 and Fri 20 Nov \nMore Than Light \nLight is becoming a platform for communication\, sensing\, and energy transfer. A series of live demonstrations shows how future lighting can connect devices\, support sustainable IoT\, wirelessly power tiny implants\, and create environments that respond to the world around them. Stays open on Friday for the festival’s light seminar day. \nMarcos Katz · Supported by 6G Flagship\, EU SNS SUPERIOT\, Business Finland WiseCom\, and Infotech Oulu. \n\n\nDemo 3 · Thu 19 Nov \nCan AI Beat the Finnish Winter? \nHeavy snow\, minus twenty\, and the train is late again. This model learned from about 38 million railway records and roughly 200 Finnish Meteorological Institute weather stations to estimate delays across Finland. Explore the rail network on an interactive map and find out which weather hits the trains hardest. \nVinicius Pozzobon Borin\, Nurul Mahmood · Part of the ENSURE-6G project and 6G Flagship. \n\n\nThe event is part of the University of Oulu’s 2026 cultural programme and the Lumo Art & Tech Festival programme. \n \n\nSee the full festival programme at Oulu2026. \nFind us at other events on our event calendar.

SUMMARY:IEEE SENSORS@25
DESCRIPTION:The IEEE Sensors Council is holding IEEE Sensors@25 for the 25th anniversary of the IEEE SENSORS Conference\, running a single track over three days with keynotes\, panels and interactive presentations. Under its Journal-Conference Synergy initiative\, the Council invited selected IEEE Sensors Journal authors to present their papers in those interactive sessions. \nTadashi Matsumoto presents on behalf of the Centre for Wireless Communications at the University of Oulu. The paper analyses error exponents and outage probability in distributed hypothesis testing\, where a sensor encodes and transmits quantised observations over a fading channel and a decision centre rules on a hypothesis rather than reconstructing the original data. Designing the link around the decision rather than the bits speaks directly to the goal-oriented and semantic communication questions that shape how 6G networks will carry sensing traffic. Matsumoto delivers the presentation remotely. \n\n\n\n\n\nInvited presenter\n \nTadashi Matsumoto\nProfessor Emeritus\nCentre for Wireless Communications\, University of Oulu \n\nInteractive presentation \nGoal-Oriented Wireless Sensor Networks: Error Exponent and Outage Analyses With Distributed Hypothesis Testing \n\n\n\nMore information is available on the official IEEE Sensors@25 website. \nSee other 6G Flagship appearances on our event calendar.
