SUMMARY:IEEE MeditCom 2026
DESCRIPTION:IEEE MeditCom is the conference of the IEEE Communications Society serving the Mediterranean area and surrounding countries. It gathers visionary researchers in academia and industry from all over the world to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. IEEE MeditCom features a comprehensive and timely technical program\, addressing the hottest topics in the areas of communications and networking. IEEE MeditCom 2026 solicits researchers in industry and academia to submit papers on a wide range of research subjects\, encompassing theoretical and applied research. \nRepresenting 6G Flagship\n6G Flagship is represented at the event by D.Sc. Thushan Sivalingam\, who will present his paper on “Trajectory-Centric Generative Semantic Communication for Wireless Video Transmission”. \n🕘 Time: Tuesday\, July 7\, 9:00 – 10:30\n🎤 Session 3: Semantic and Task-oriented Communications\n📍 Room: Villanova. \nAbstract:\nVideo semantic communication (SemCom) focuses on transmitting the semantic meaning of the video rather than pixel-accurate frames\, enabling efficient operation under bandwidth constraints. This paper presents a trajectory-centric semantic video communication framework that performs predictive video transmission in a compact latent space using a small set of context frames. The proposed model leverages vector-quantized latent compression with a lightweight temporal transformer to infer future frames at the receiver\, significantly reducing transmission overhead. Motion dynamics are explicitly treated as semantic information\, providing a compact representation of motion fidelity. Using normalized end-point error (nEPE)\, a novel trajectory-based metric for video SemCom\, we measured motion accuracy. Experimental results on the BAIR robot pushing dataset demonstrate that the proposed approach preserves motion trajectories and perceptual quality while operating at a low bitrate of 0.27 bits per pixel (bpp)\, outperforming conventional video codecs and learning-based baselines in semantic fidelity under wireless channel conditions. \nFull program available at MeditCom 2026 website.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Bridging MIMO Signal Processing\, Hardware Design\, and Physically Consistent Modeling @ ICASSP 2026
DESCRIPTION:The half-day workshop is a satellite workshop associated with ICASSP 2026. \nThe workshop aims to unite academic and industrial researchers\, students\, and professionals who are working on or are interested in the state-of-the-art\, research challenges\, and expected evolution of multi-antenna communications. The workshop has a cross-disciplinary scope that connects MIMO signal processing with hardware design\, circuit theory\, and EM theory. \nMassive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is a cornerstone of modern wireless systems and is set to play an even greater role in 6G and beyond. As these systems evolve\, extremely large MIMO (XL-MIMO) and holographic MIMO are emerging as key technologies. XL-MIMO leverages physically large\, dense antenna arrays with thousands of elements with sub-wavelength spacing to achieve unprecedented spectral and energy efficiency\, while holographic MIMO replaces traditional arrays with continuous surfaces capable of full electromagnetic wave manipulation. These paradigms demand physically consistent models grounded in circuit and EM theory\, moving beyond the simplifications traditionally used in wireless communications. \nThis half-day workshop will explore the integration of MIMO signal processing\, hardware design\, and physically consistent modelling\, highlighting the need for both hardware-aware algorithm design and algorithm-aware hardware architectures. It offers a multidisciplinary perspective on the challenges and opportunities of operating at the interface of signal processing and physical-layer realism. The programme features three invited talks from leading researchers\, paper presentations selected through an open call\, and a panel discussion on future research directions. \n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\n09:00–09:05\nOpening\n\n\n09:05–09:40\nInvited presentation: Angel Lozano\n\n\n09:40–10:15\nInvited presentation: Josef A. Nossek\n\n\n10:15–10:30\nPaper 1\n\n\n10:30–11:00\nCoffee break\n\n\n11:00–11:35\nInvited presentation: Davide Dardari\n\n\n11:35–11:50\nPaper 2\n\n\n11:50–12:05\nPaper 3\n\n\n12:05–12:30\nPanel discussion\n\n\n\n\n\nInvited Speakers\n \n\n\n \n\nAngel Lozano\nProfessor\, Department of Engineering\, Universitat Pompeu Fabra\, Barcelona (Spain)\n\n\nTitle: “Channel Estimation for XL MIMO: A Middle Way”\nAbstract: With the frequency and array apertures growing steadily larger\, the number of antenna elements per array has gone from a handful to hundreds\, and soon thousands. The associated channel estimation problem\, which used to be a rather trivial task\, is fast becoming a critical challenge. And\, compounding the difficulty\, the time-honoured far-field assumption mostly ceases to hold in these situations\, and the wavefront curvature is revealed over the arrays. This lecture presents an original approach that is perfectly suited to the estimation of large-dimensional near-field channels. Specifically\, by expressing the curved wavefront as a polynomial via a power series expansion of a sphere\, the estimation can be cast as a multidimensional polynomial phase estimation problem. The application of a tailored polynomial phase estimator\, able to handle arbitrary dimensions and polynomial degrees\, yields an excellent trade-off between channel estimation accuracy and complexity.\n\n \n\n\n \n\nJosef A. Nossek\nEmeritus of Excellence\, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering\, Technical University of Munich (Germany)\n\n\nTitle: “Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces and Circuit Theory”\nAbstract: Information theory serves well as the mathematical theory of communication. However\, it contains no provision that makes sure its theorems are consistent with the physical laws that govern any existing realisation of a communication system. Therefore\, it may not be surprising that applications of information theory or signal processing\, as currently practised\, easily turn out to be inconsistent with fundamental principles of physics\, such as the law of conservation of energy. It is the purpose of multiport communication theory to provide the necessary framework ensuring that applications of signal processing and information theory actually do comply with physical law. This framework involves a circuit theoretic approach where the inputs and outputs of the communication system are associated with ports of a multiport black box. Thanks to each port being described by a pair of two instead of just one variable\, consistency with physics can be maintained. The connection to information theory and signal processing is then obtained by means of isomorphisms between mathematical symbols of the latter and the physical quantities of the multiport model such as transmit power and noise covariance. The principles of the multiport communication theory are presented and accompanied by a discussion of interesting results of its application to wireless links supported by Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS).\n\n \n\n\n \n\nDavide Dardari\nProfessor\, Department of Electrical\, Electronic\, and Information Engineering “Guglielmo Marconi”\, University of Bologna (Italy)\n\n\nTitle: “Wave-Domain Multifunctional Electromagnetic Signal Processing for XL-MIMO”\nAbstract: While XL-MIMO represents a promising technology to improve the communication and sensing performance of next-generation wireless systems\, it poses several challenges from both technological and sustainability perspectives. Thanks to the introduction of new reconfigurable antenna and metamaterial technologies\, an interesting research direction is to shift part of the signal processing directly to the wave domain. This talk will provide an overview of physically consistent modelling\, fundamental limits\, and optimisation approaches for reconfigurable electromagnetic systems enabling multifunctional wave-domain processing. Some numerical examples related to beamforming\, MISO\, and MIMO precoding will be presented to illustrate the potential of this concept.\n\n\n \n\nPapers\n\nAnzheng Tang\, Shenghui Song\, Chi-Ying Tsui\, Rodrigo C. de Lamare\, and Merouane Debbah\, “Channel Estimation for Holographic MIMO Systems with Mutual Coupling Awareness”\nFrancesco Verde\, Donatella Darsena\, Marco Di Renzo\, and Vincenzo Galdi\, “Optimal Transmit Field Distribution for Partially Obstructed Continuous Radiating Surfaces in Near-Field Communication Systems”\nRuiding Hou\, Jiaheng Wang\, Sen Wang\, Yongming Huang\, Yutong Zhang\, Liang Xia\, and Jing Jin\, “Linear WMMSE MIMO Precoding with One-Bit DACs”\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganisers\n\n \nItalo Atzeni\nAssociate Professor\, Centre for Wireless Communications\, University of Oulu (Finland)\n\n\n \nGeorge C. SUMMARY:SPADE: 1st International Workshop on Scheduling & Parallelism in AI for Distributed Edges
DESCRIPTION:Co-located with: 15th International Conference on the Internet of Things (IoT 2025). \nDate: To be announced \nLocation: Vienna\, Austria \n\n1. Workshop Scope & Motivation\nAs cloud\, edge\, and mobile computing continue to converge into a unified computing ecosystem\, there is a growing opportunity for edge platforms to support computationally intensive AI models as services similar to the cloud AI services. However\, constraints on scheduling\, distribution\, and resource managements making large scale adoption slow. Considering these challenges Scheduling and Parallelism for AI in Distributed Edge (SPADE) aims to collect novel contributions on the architecture\, algorithmic\, and practical challenges of deploying computationally intensive applications (Deep learning\, Generative AI\, LLM\, etc) across distributed edge computing. While edge AI offers low-latency and privacy-preserving inference for IoT\, the inability to efficiently parallelize tasks often limits system performance. This workshop targets the combination of computationally intensive models handling parallelism limits\, AI computation and scheduling optimization with resource-constrained\, and heterogeneous edge networks. SPADE will bring together researchers and practitioners working on model partitioning\, decentralized scheduling\, execution frameworks\, hybrid AI pipelines\, and benchmarking testbeds. In addition\, it will address bottlenecks in distributed inference and highlight new strategies for intelligent scheduling and task coordination. The contributions on model slicing\, distributed inference\, workload orchestration\, task-to-node mapping\, and scalable deployment of AI for IoT systems through presentations\, discussion sessions\, and short papers is welcome. \n\n\n2.
